5x5 Technologies: Ultra Hi-Def Wireless Asset Management

When the folks at 5x5 Technologies set out to build their company, the vision was quite clear—they wanted to provide telecommunications tower owners and engineering companies with an accurate and reliable single point of reference that offers information on their tower assets. To do this, the company collaborates with state-of-the-art, drone-based imaging partners to collect the raw visual data on the tower in the highest resolution possible. They then convert, clean, and share that data securely via an encrypted portal and use it to create a digital twin, a virtual HD CAD model of the tower itself. The result is a 3D model that is 99.9 percent dimensionally accurate with comparable detail to physically viewing the tower. Users can observe each module on the asset with uncompromised resolution. “We understand the intricate role that technology plays in meeting the unique needs of global enterprises. That’s why we designed Ávrio with security built-in, not patched on. Built for scale, Ávrio allows companies a comprehensive view into their assets,” states Anne Zink, CEO of 5x5 Technologies.

The Ávrio Compute Engine contains a set of proprietary workflows and tools, which take the drone-captured data and transforms it into actionable 3D insights. These workflows are designed to efficiently create, precisely scale, and georeference high-resolution 3D digital twins of client assets, providing a detailed view of their health and status. Ávrio combines 3D computing with AI tools to provide a fully automated CAD and engineering platform for asset analysis. Familiar 3D CAD tools are combined with AI to streamline workflows for faster delivery of critical information, analysis, and engineering reports. As a result, “Ávrio delivers unrivaled value to clients by allowing users to segment and share specific portions of the tower, protecting individual asset owner privacy in multi-tenant environments,” Zink.

Furthermore, Ávrio’s mobile-friendly interface provides users with the ability to view and share asset data in the field. Sales teams associated with cellular towers can now view digital twins and zoom into customer RAD centers to show available space or discuss leases. On the other hand, field operations teams can view a digital twin before they climb, to zoom in for a detailed look at tower components to determine the asset’s health, evaluate equipment, tools and techniques needed for the work at hand, and improve safety measures.

The company has worked with several high profile carriers since its inception, around varying requirements. One particular customer was looking to create digital twins of their entire portfolio of towers. This was a challenging venture, marred with challenges surrounding inconsistent data collection. They soon collaborated with 5x5 Technologies, who assigned drone operators to go out and scan the assets. Test articles were placed on the tower, subsequent measurements verified accuracy to 99.9 percent and material thickness measurements to 1/32ndof an inch with the particular drone and sensor platform utilized. The client was able to move forward with an extremely high level of confidence in the quality and accuracy of the data.

Having several successes under its belt, the company is currently working on expanding its core capabilities. 5x5 Technologies plans to offer a solution in rust detection extending capabilities to detecting degradation of various materials and coating health utilizing hyperspectral imaging as well as asset inventory identification and change detection(from one scan to another) using AI under development. They are also pioneering spatial signal processing to reconstruct the radiated fields within the 3D CAD environment. With this, RF engineers could look at the RF radiation pattern—by frequency and intensity—and determine if there are coverage issues or problems with antenna installation.

With the objective reality of new technologies such as IoT and the incumbent 5G, it is inevitable that the hardware infrastructure behind them be as high-tech as well. 5x5 Technologies is with them every step of the way, with path-breaking solutions that will lead the way into a wireless tomorrow.
